A self-guided kayak tour is a great way to explore the beautiful Noosa River. The river mouth estuary is one of Australia’s best kept secrets for exploring by kayak. Where else in the world can you paddle around pristine sandflat and mangrove environments just a few hundred metres from the hustle and bustle of the iconic destination like Noosa?

Discover for yourself the rhythm of wildlife in a tidal river haven. Navigate hidden mangrove corridors at high tide, and explore sandflats alive with soldier crabs and wading birds as the tide falls. We will supply you with a map and we will point out river features and hazards to help keep you safe on your own adventures. Our touring kayaks are fast and stable with steering and back rests.

As an Eco-Tourism certified company, we strongly promote preservation of this wonderful Noosa Biosphere through recreation and education.  We will also provide you with an information sheet on the wildlife you can expect to see on the river which will help you identify what you see from the various Birds of Prey to stingrays and soldier crabs.

The best time to paddle on the river and see more wildlife is early to mid-morning.  The wind does tend to increase after11.30am

WHAT TO BRING: Bring a snack and a bottle of water.

WHAT TO WEAR: Wear paddling clothes - prepare to get wet (change or clothes and towel can be stored in the shop), sunscreen, sun hat. (In colder months of the year, please wear thermals and a spray jacket)

Morning Session

What better way to explore the beautiful Noosa River and learn about the Biosphere than by kayak with a tour guide. We are passionate about environmental sustainability and we have Advanced eco-tourism certification.

Your tour guide will take you into hidden mangrove  corridors, and over to the sand flats of the Frying Pan, pointing out stingrays, soldier, ghost and hermit crabs, moon snails, as well as numerous seabirds including Terns, Cormorants, Darters, Pied Oystercatchers and various wading birds on the sand flats including Egrets, Whimbrels, Godwits and Plovers.  Overhead may also see a range of Birds of Prey including White-Bellied Sea Eagle, Eastern Osprey, Whistling and Brahminy Kites.

Kayak Noosa is the only kayak company on the Noosa River that uses touring kayaks with sails and steering. It makes the trip much more enjoyable as you can glide quietly past wading birds and take in the scenery. Your guide will point out river features and hazards to help keep you safe on your own adventures we know you will want to have after taking our tour.

You will learn to read currents and wind direction to make paddling easy. Our qualified instructors are happy to cater for individual requirements. The tour includes basic paddling instruction, instruction on all equipment including the steering and use of sails as well as a safety briefing.

TIME: 9.00am - 11.30am (although we can be a little flexible with the start time - mornings are always better - less windy, less water traffic and more wildlife around)

We make it easy for you to customise your own paddling adventure by making our extensive range of sit-on-top kayaks, standup paddle boards and racing skis available for hire. We call this service our Freedom Hire as it allows you the freedom to explore the Noosa River at your pace, either for an 1 hour or up to 1 week.

Explore the beautiful Noosa River in your own time. There are so many out of the way places that you can enjoy.  Paddling is an excellent activity to enjoy on your own or with friends and family.  Our extensive range of kayaks, skis and Standup Paddle Boards ensures we have something for everybody.

We give you a full safety and orientation introduction and let you in on the local secrets on where to go and what you can expect to see. We provide PFD’s, dry bag for your personals and a map. Kayak Noosa offers the best range of Standups, sit-on and sit-in kayaks and racing skis in fibreglass, carbon and polyethylene available in the Noosa region.
