Thanks again for providing such an awesome holiday for us, there’s nothing quite like it that we’ve ever come across and it certainly makes the year go fast when you’ve got something as special as Weipa (Boyd’s Bay especially) to look forward to.
G’day Steve – only been back to work a week and we’ve realised that a life without a weipa holiday is pretty bloody boring existence, so we have decided to book again.
Location
Weipa is a mining town of approximately 2500 people located on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula.
The rivers surrounding Weipa make for excellent fishing, crabbing and croc spotting. Swimming is not possible due to the box jellyfish and saltwater crocodiles.
FAQs
What is the difference between the “Tillimay” and “Tillitoo”?
The “Tillitoo” is our second houseboat and design is much the same with some improvements.
For a start it is longer giving more deck space. The sleeping arrangements are more suitable for a group of singles, all single bunks whereas the “Tillimay” has 1 double bed.
Both boats are well set up for groups of fishing enthusiasts.
Do tenders come with the houseboats? 
Dinghies are available at an additional cost of $170 per day each.
Can we bring our own dinghies?
Yes, many people drive to Weipa and bring their own dinghies with them.
You’re most welcome of course, but be aware Weipa is a fair drive from almost anywhere!
Do we need a boat licence to hire the houseboat?
Yes, a designated person needs to be over 21 and hold a recreational boat licence.
Also anyone operating the dinghies needs a recreational boat licence.
Houseboats are relatively easy to manage and the waters are generally pretty smooth (except when you’re reeling the fish in!).
How many people can the houseboat take?
Both boats are in survey for 10 and sleep 10.
However we recommend 6 to 8 as an ideal number.
How can I get to Weipa?
There are daily flights from Cairns, it is a 1 1/2 hour flight.
To drive from Cairns takes about 10 hours, mostly dirt road. A 4WD is recommended.
Is fuel included in the price?
No. Fuel is an additional charge.
Most groups will use at least $100 worth of fuel a day.
What can we purchase in Weipa in regards to groceries and fishing gear?
Woolworths, butcher and baker are open Monday to Saturday. There are also a couple of suppliers of fishing gear.
Many groups bring their favourite rods with them, and purchase line, sinkers etc when they get to Weipa.
