Our story

Lee Longs Tackle Shop

Lee Longs Tackle Shop is now owned by a third generation Lee Long, Simone and her husband Dave Hardy. New to the business in November 2017, the pair are excited to continue the iconic Lee Longs store well into the future. Both coming from very mad-loving fishing families, the decision to transition the convenience store into a dedicated tackle shop was a no-brainer. The shop has expanded its fishing tackle products with new floor plan taking shape. Don’t worry, the lollies and peanuts are staying for good!

HISTORY

Established in 1946 by Edward (Snr) Lee Long and his wife Doris, Lee Longs store traded as Gordonvale's main convenience shop selling fresh fruit and vegetables, household items and Asian foods. Top sellers in the day were fresh cooked beetroot served with butter, salt and pepper, homemade peanuts (which are still a crowd favourite today), and homemade toffee apples. Eddie and Doris worked together in the store and raised their four children, Buddy, Lawrence, Aileen and Edward (Jnr). As the kids grew up, the three boys and their wives decided to run the store.

In 1964, Lee Longs branched out into school buses and ran three bus routes around the local area (Little Mulgrave, Aloomba, and Second Beach) for 40 years. There are not too many people in Gordonvale that don’t have fond memories of catching a Lee Long bus, placing their lolly order in the morning and collecting in the afternoon.

As the eldest son, Buddy started to reach his late 70’s, the long term fate of the shop was unknown. With no family members interested at the time, the shop was placed on the market for sale. In 2016/17, when the second daughter of Ed (Jnr) and her husband Dave Hardy were considering their long term goals with work and family, the stars aligned, discussions had, and with the blessing of the three brothers, decided to purchase the shop and expand the fishing tackle range.

On behalf of all the Lee Long families, we thank the local community for their ongoing support and business over the last 71 years.
